We use fume hoods in our lab because we work with hazardous materials. We have two different types of fume hoods. One style of fume hood is re circulating which means it cleans the air and re circulates it through a series of filters. On other type of fume hood we use is connected to an exhaust fan that leads out of the building. Fume hoods are used to prevent our personnel from inhaling any hazardous materials that we might be working with at the time. Some of our fume hoods use a charcoal like substance. Fume hoods are very ingenious. Although one of the downsides to a fume hood is a very costly electric bill it is certainly worth every penny when you consider the value of all of your employees. Certain Fume hoods are better than others.
