A work area in which the air quality, temperature and humidity are highly regulated in order to protect sensitive equipment from contamination. Clean rooms are important features in the production of silicon chips, hard disk drives and other technologies such as satellites. The air in a clean room is repeatedly filtered to remove dust particles and other impurities that can damage the production of highly sensitive technologies.

The measure of the air quality of a clean room is described in Federal Standard 209. Clean rooms are rated as "Class 10,000," where there exists no more than 10,000 particles larger than 0.5 microns in any given cubic foot of air; "Class 1000," where there exists no more than 1000 particles; and "Class 100," where there exists no more than 100 particles. Hard disk drive fabrication requires a Class 100 clean room.

People who work in clean rooms must wear special protective clothing called "bunny suits" that do not give off lint particles and prevent human skin and hair particles from entering the room's atmosphere.

Have You Ever Been Inside a Clean Room?

By John Hastings

2/17, 2009

You'd probably remember it if you'd ever been in a clean room. No doubt you would have had to put on a specially designed clean room outfit that came with cloth booties and a hat to cover every strand of your hair. You no doubt had to wear a face mask in the clean room to prevent you from coughing cold virus germs all over the place. Anyone who has ever been inside a clean knows one thing for certain—that was one very clean room!

What are You Looking for in a Clean Room?

Does your industry or upcoming project require the particulate free environment of a clean room? Are you unsure of what you should expect in the design and construction of a state-of-the-art clean room? And what about the cost? Do your clean room plans call for an ultra high-tech, high-end clean room of a permanent nature, or would the lower cost and faster installation of a portable clean room better suit your short-term or temporary needs? Whatever your situation might be, look to our clean room construction and technology first.

Who Needs a Clean Room?

There exists a broad spectrum of industries that require particulate free, scrubbed air environments. From manufacturing to medicine, a wide variety of industrial and scientific processes require the unique environmental atmosphere provided by clean room design, technology, and construction. Anyone who has ever seen the interior of a clean room understands the rigorous controls that prevent the introduction of contaminants into a clean room environment.

Whether it's a permanent construction or a portable clean room setting, the protocols for maintaining clean room integrity are essentially the same. Specialized garments and footwear must be worn to prevent the introduction of human hair or dead skin cells from contaminating the area—face masks prevent the possibility of cold, flu or other bacterial or virus contaminants from entering the clean room. Environmental surfaces must be of a particular type to resist particulate accumulations, highly specialized gaskets and seals must be used around doors, windows, and other wall perforations. In short, a clean room must remain very clean, indeed. And who needs these super clean environments?

 Clean Room Construction

Any industry or organization that requires a clean room environment will essentially have two types to choose from: permanent or portable clean room construction. Within these two categories, clean room construction is also available in what is known as “hard wall” or “soft wall” construction. Soft wall clean room construction is typically less expensive, and it is usually found in portable clean room construction models. Portable clean rooms not only offer generally lower costs, they also offer the additional advantage of fast delivery and installation times. Portable clean rooms are ingeniously designed with all environmental systems such as High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filtration, heating, plumbing, and electrical systems built into prefabricated modules designed for fast erection and single point utility connections.

A permanent construction clean room will feature all the environmental controls of a portable clean room. Permanent construction or hard wall clean rooms will also offer the options of negative pressure gowning antechambers and specially designed airlock entryways and more. Be sure to contact us about the clean room environment you require.

Clean Zones Provides Quality Clean rooms

By Jared D.

Sunday, Dec 28, 2008

We provide cleanrooms, where you can manufacture products in which the airborne particles are controlled to a specific limit of concentration. Elimination these airborne contaminants are important, which is why we provide quality cleanrooms (clean rooms).

A cleanroom elimination of sub-micron airborne contaminants is a process of precise control. Whether these contaminants are carried by people, processes and facilities and equipment. Because of this a cleanroom is needed to continually remove contaminants from the air.

Depending on what level of particles the cleanroom needs to remove we provide various cleanrooms which eliminate particles depending on the standards required for the cleanroom.

Federal Standard Adherence Cleanrooms

On average Federal Standard 209E is used for a standard level of removed particles, which we adhere to. This standard as well as other strict rules and procedures are followed here at Clean Zones where we provide quality cleanrooms nationally.

Total environmental control is the only way to control contamination by use of cleanrooms (clean rooms). Our cleanrooms control airflow rates and direction. Our cleanrooms maintain pressurization, temperature, humidity and also provide specialized filtration.

Our cleanrooms are both manufactured and planned by using the most strict methods and protocol procedures. We provide cleanrooms (clean rooms) for electronic, pharmaceutical, and medical industries including other manufacturing environments.

Importance of a Cleanroom

Think of the importance of having a cleanroom (clean room). A strand of hair is 75 microns in diameter, and a particle that is .5 microns (200x smaller) could cause a serious breach of contamination in a manufacturing environment.

You can't afford expensive downtime in production. Once a cleanroom is built, you need to ensure that your cleanrooms are maintained and cleaned to the same standards that Clean Zones built them.

It is crucial for contamination to be prevented, its a process where materials or surfaces are soiled with substances. Surface contaminants are known as film and particulates. Our cleanrooms are built to remove both film and particulates.

These film and particulates can ruin miniature circuits, which is why they are built inside a cleanroom (clean room). Our cleanrooms remove film contaminants that could reduce the coating adhesion of a chip.

Cleanroom Qualities

By Jared D.

Before you look at other cleanrooms, consider this:

Clean Zones will look at various areas of your concern when designing a cleanroom. The following are things to consider when choosing someone to provide you with a cleanroom (clean room).

Cleanroom - HEPA Filter (High Efficiency Particulate Air Filter)

HEPA filters are crucial for maintaining contamination control by filtering small particles the size of 0.3 microns.

Cleanroom – Architecture

When Clean Zones decides to design a cleanroom we ensure that our cleanroom architecture both achieves and maintains an airflow which the entire body of air within a confined area moves around in parallel flow lines in uniform velocity.

The more restriction within a cleanroom air flow the more turbulence is created. A cleanroom's air flow turbulence can cause particle movement.

Cleanroom – Filtration

Clean Zones ensures that more than just a HEPA filter is used, Clean Zones has a number of other mechanisms that filter out particles in our cleanrooms. We do this to ensure essential contaminant control.

Cleanroom – Cleaning

Cleaning a cleanroom is essential for maintaining the control of contaminants. You must make decisions on how you want to clean and maintain your cleanroom. These decisions will help maintain the cleanroom's effectiveness.

Cleanroom – Garments

It is important to wear proper garments when entering a cleanroom. These cleanroom garments include gloves, face masks and head covers. In addition to this smocks and jump suits can be worn in cleanrooms.

Portable Clean Rooms Offer Economy and Performance

By Jared D.

Sunday, Dec 14, 2008

There is no shortage of medical, manufacturing, and research fields today that require a near perfect absence of dust or other types of particulate contaminants in a controlled environment setting. Clean rooms are needed everywhere it seems, and portable clean rooms offer a good solution when affordably priced clean rooms are needed as soon as possible. Portable clean rooms can be delivered to a site and set up in a matter of days, and the costs associated with portable clean rooms is significantly less than a permanent structure. Without a doubt, when time and money are major considerations, portable clean rooms offer the ultimate solution.

Cleanrooms or clean rooms, which is the correct way to write this word?

By Jared D.

Friday, June 6, 2008

When I looked up clean room in the dictionary here is what I saw: a room for the manufacture or assembly of objects (as precision parts) that is maintained at a high level of cleanliness by special means

The word was clean room not spelled as cleanroom. I did notice on many web sites and industrial applications clean room was spelt as cleanroom. After doing the research I concluded that clean rooms is the correct usage of the word. Cleanrooms is a slang version of clean room and is growing in popularity on the Internet. So to keep traditional you use clean room if you are in a hurry or just forget cleanroom will work too.

Wet Bench and wet process stations as part of your clean room.

By Thomas S.

Thursday, June 5, 2008

There is a added value of having a wet bench and wet process station in your clean room. We had our clean room modified with a wet bench and wet process station and it has saved us a tremendous amount of time in getting work done. The cost for the wet bench and wet process stations was covered by the gain in productivity. We did not have to enter and exit to use a wet bench or wet process station. This saved so much time. Do not look at the cost of the wet bench or wet process station but how this can be intergrated into your clean room to cut cost on productivity. Time is money.

We had to seal off the Portable cleanroom.

By Kelly

Monday, March 10, 2008

Just days after we had the Portable cleanroom in place we needed to seal it off as the air shower was not operating.  The air shower worked fine when we started to use it for the Portable cleanroom.  However this morning we could not get the air shower that was in place before the Portable cleanroom to operate at all.  The company stated that it is going to take 3 days before they could be here to take a look at the air shower for the Portable cleanroom.  We were already behind schedule and really can not afford to stop the process so our maintenance crew is going to try to diagnose the air shower for the Portable cleanroom.

They brought in a Portable cleanroom at the scene.

By kelly

Monday, February 18, 2008

This was a very high profile crime scene so they brought in a P ortable cleanroom to keep the evidence from being contaminated.  Before you could even enter the Portable cleanroom you needed to go through the air shower.  By passing through the air shower before entering the Portable cleanroom any outside particles where removed from each person.  We had to make sure there was no room for error with this crime scene.  And by utilizing the Portable cleanroom and air shower no one could ever have an argument that the evidence was contaminated.

We have to pass through the air shower to get to the clean rooms

By Kelly

Tuesday, December 11, 2007

You must pass through the air shower to get into the clean room.  The smallest amount of dirt or dust can damage our process.  Any contamination can destroy the product so we have a clean room in our facility.  And to enter the clean room you must pass through the air shower and also put on the gowns and masks.  This takes a lot of time from our day but it is a must.

They need a portable clean rooms

By Kelly

Sunday, November 18, 2007

They need to get a portable cleanroom with an air shower.  The crime scene can not be contaminated.  The portable cleanroom would only be needed for about a week.  They should be able to process all the evidence by then.  The air shower must be there also so they do not bring in anything as it may get confused for evidence.  Once we are able to get the cleanroom and air shower on site we can move forward.

Our new clean room

By Stetson

Tuesday, September 18, 2007

The college I work at has had outdated equipment for most of my career. Almost none of the equipment worked properly, and it often interfered with my students lab results. Little did I know the school was saving up money the whole time to purchase the students a high tech lab environment.

A clean room was installed as well as fume hoods, and brand new laboratory furniture. The fume exhaust hood that was installed allows the students to now work with toxic chemicals. This is something that I could never even consider doing before.

The students love the changes, and we're starting to get more and more interest in the program every year now. Everyone from around the country wants to visit our high-tech labs and learn from our professors. It's an exciting change from what it used to be.

Our Company Uses Clean Rooms

By Miranda

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

At my place of work, we require ultra clean air for our delicate manufacturing process. Because of this, each employee works in a clean room to ensure that our product is not damaged.

Recently though, the company went through an expansion and had to hire new employees to meet this new economic growth of the company. With new employees, they needed more work stations in clean rooms.

To solve the problem, the company purchased three new clean rooms, new laboratory furniture, a new laboratory hood for each work station, and even a few portable clean rooms just in case we hire more.

Microprocessor companies such as Microsoft and Amd use cleanrooms to..

Posted By Frank P.

On 10/09/2007

Microprocessor companies such as Microsoft and Amd use cleanrooms to manufacture chips that go inside pc's. Video cards are also manufactured in cleanrooms. Cleanrooms are specified by classes. A class "one" clean room is the cleanest of all. This process of determining class depends on the amount of particle dust found in one cubic foot. For instance imagine a grain of sand that were to fall on to a microprocessor. It would destroy it and no one would know until you got it from the retail store. In micro processing it is essential to work in cleanrooms when assembling and manufacturing microchips. The name of the suit work in a cleanroom is called a "bunny suit" after it's all white appearance.

Clean rooms are not just for computer chip manufacturers

By Noel J.

Sunday, March 18, 2007

Clean rooms are becoming a growing part of many industries. The general populace thinks of computer chip manufacturers and bio hazard companies when they think of cleanrooms. Scientists and businessmen in many dozens of industries, however, understand that clean rooms, air showers, and a variety of laboratory furniture are vital to their businesses. If you are a professional in need of clean room and related laboratory equipment, please use the Internet when seeking clean room technology. There are many companies with vast experience who are using the web to lower costs and pass the savings on to you and your cleanroom.
